Working in EMI Care

October 07th 2021

EMI or elderly mentally infirm care, can be an extremely rewarding occupation with our EMI care assistants making a difference every single day to the lives of those residing in our specialist care homes. If you have ever considered working in elderly care, take a look at our guide to find out more.

What is an EMI Care Home?

An EMI care home is a care home specialising in care for older residents who may also be suffering from a mental infirmity such as dementia or dementia-related conditions such as Alzheimers. Our EMI care homes provide dedicated services for those with a range of needs and aim to provide a dedicated and personalised care service for each of our residents.

How is an EMI Care Home Different?

In contrast to some of our other care homes, such as those for individuals with learning difficulties or our mental health care residences, our EMI care homes are specifically designed for elderly residents with mental infirmities. This type of care home provides specialist services catering to the needs of EMI care home residents with staff specifically trained to fit their needs. This may include things such as reminiscence rooms which contain familiar objects to help those with Dementia or Alzheimers, specialist equipment and memory-focussed activities.

What Skills Are Needed to Work in EMI Care?

EMI care requires some of the same skills as any other type of care setting. Compassion and trustworthiness are key for any care role and particularly for those working in an EMI home. Above all, our care home assistants and team members must be friendly and approachable in order to build up a relationship with our care home residents in which they feel comfortable.

Reliability is also a key skill for a case assistant role as those receiving care rely on receiving care when they need it. Finally, the ability to communicate with those from all walks of life is integral to working in EMI care. Our elderly and mentally infirm care homes are home to people of all backgrounds so it is important for our EMI carers to be able to talk to them with ease.

Will I Receive Training to Work in EMI Care?

No matter which of our UK-wide care homes you apply to work in, our care home staff will always receive full training to equip you to deal with whatever challenges day-to-day life might throw at you. We make sure that each of our EMI carers is able to handle the unique challenges EMI care involves so that they can provide the best possible care for each of our residents.
