The plan is designed to ensure each resident gets the support they need to live full and happy lives. Physical disability care is a type of support that helps individuals with mobility or other types of physical issues manage everyday tasks which can involve daily routines e.g. washing, dressing, etc. as well as mobility support.
Typically the goals, in addition to management of day to day tasks, are to promote independence as much as possible while maintaining safety (like preventing falls for example), but also to make sure the individual’s overall wellbeing is promoted. This can include emotional support, social connection, etc.
Person-centred residential care for physical disabilities is the provision of support in a safe environment in a way that respects the individual’s needs, choices and personal goals. This means involving them in decisions about their care, daily routines, etc and overall viewing the person first as opposed to focusing on their physical limitation only. It also involves the creation of personalised care plans aligned with the person’s individual needs, preferences and routines.
This is something that Select Healthcare takes very seriously and is one of the core pillars of the service we offer.
Some of the conditions that we’re able to provide support for within our residential homes include:

We regularly involve residents in group activities designed to stimulate both the mind and the body and we have safe outdoor areas and lounge spaces for residents to spend time in. We encourage friendships within the homes as well as involvement in local outings where possible.
