Chris Brookes
Change of mood for the care staff, kitchen folk and manager Michelle.
A narrative poem constructed at Hilcote.
Arrival at Hilcote to bask in late sun
On flower enveloped terrace
After my tablets and a brief nod off
Awakening into
Unknown reality of a care home
A pageant created from pleasures
Emanating from superbly motivated staff
Whose names Lucy, Hayley and Sandra
I recalled from the excellent team
Where we residents shared meals
From necessities toiletries to sleep mode
Fondly learning the "rogues gallery" (often so-called)
I sensed my way through residents
Came time fully to enjoy
All occasions here
Particularly views from bow windows
And from terrace fences over the copses
To noble Eccleshall church tower
Memory embellished of local league
Cricket ground
