Natalie

Hi,

My name is Natalie, I am 40 years old, and I was born with Down’s Syndrome.

Last year, I had a fall and after 10 weeks in two different hospitals, it was decided that I could not go home, and I was discharged to Primecare Residential Home.

Since I have been here, I have been very happy and well looked after.  This is a good place to live and provides good quality care for all the residents, some of whom have dementia and lots of older people too.

We have got a good quality and trustworthy management team who are dedicated and committed to Primecare.  I believe that they are all very courteous and very confident in their jobs and with themselves too.

We have a wonderful chef called Stevie, who cooks for us all and all the meals are portioned out.  All our meals are homemade, and they are very delicious, and it is always made fresh every day.

We have a great activities lady called Julie who has designed a daily programme and arranges all the activities here for all of us.  We can join in or just watch or stay in our room if we want to.

We have a fantastic team of domestic people who keep our bedrooms clean for us.  They are very happy people and chat to us as they are working.  But if we want family to visit in our room, they come back and clean later so as not to bother us.  Some of them sing and make me laugh.

The carers are gentle and help with all my needs.  They check to see if I need anything and bring me hot drinks in my room if I am not in the lounge at coffee times.  They take me to the toilet and shower me and dress me every day.

We have a hairdresser who comes every week to cut or just wash and blow dry our hair and she helps me to colour my hair when it needs it.  An optician has also been and checks our eyes and sorts out our glasses and a lady who comes to cut our toenails.  (My sister tells me that we must pay for these extra services).

I would like to take this opportunity to say that all day and night staff are very happy people and really seem to enjoy their jobs.  They are so very caring, compassionate, gentle, and very supportive of me and my needs as well as other residents and their needs.  They work together as a team and help each other.

I am able to tell them what my needs are, and my voice is heard, and they help me to be as happy as possible.

Kind regards

Natalie
